There are two Questions, or better put, Ideas that I have been wondering about recently:
*Where did humans get the idea of "eternity"? [aka: that we ought live much longer than we do]
*Where did humans get the idea of "sin"? [aka: things are not how they ought to be]
____
I think I may be sick. My nose is running like a faucet someone left on, that's usually a sign of illness.
____
I had the most disturbing dream last night. [don't worry, I'm not going to share any details]

Well, these are my thoughts, which you should take as the flimsiest of conjectures while still remaining non-drug induced:
People don't really have a problem with dying. The sucky part about dying is the people who still have to live. So people thought, "How cool would it be to live for EVAR. No one would ever be sad again!" /que the Queen music.
As for sin, I have no idea. I'd just assume it's a social construct. Everyone's community has its rules. They may be different, but the rules still exist. If they didn't, there would be no need for the community. But what if someone breaks a rule? BOOM, sin.
Re: Your dream
How do we know that it was the most disturbing dream? What if it was truly mediocre? Slightly below average on the weird-and-freaky-stuff scale?
This isn't an attempt to get you to divulge details, especially if it really is the most disturbing dream, but but but... how do we know?
I'm Gregiskhan and I have no idea why I wrote this. :-)

a comment that's longer than the original post was, super cool. :)
ok, so I'm liking the potential of your explanation for "eternity".
Still working on the "sin" question though. Yes, I think you're right. Sin is a social construct. But where did the concept of "out of jointedness" of the universe come from [to use the buddhist terms]?
As for the dream, I apologize for my inaccuracies. We don't know. In fact, after further contemplation I've come to realize that it is only the second most disturbing dream that I personally have had.
