Observations from the Zoo

Well, I finally caved to my desires and agreed to be one of the debators for the political awareness week debates. I said I would debate for which ever party needed someone. I ended up on the Republican team, hopefully I won't be tarrd and feathered and my boyfriend will still speak to me. :p But strong benefits to this are that I get to do domestic instead of foreign policy and I get to take on Sorin. Bring it on! ;)

I have more great stories from class with Dr. S but those will have to wait until later. I still haven't started my hw that is due at 3pm and I really don't want "Beer!" written in the margins when I get it back again. lol.

In other news I think the RSA freshmen still is looking for friends. Too bad I didn't have more time to chat.

Mid quarter, time to party. ;)

I went to the mall yesterday on mission almost impossible. I wandered into the mall, confused, frustrated, and in knee socks that were argyle. The first coherent thought to ripple through my mind was bitter, "married women have an unfair advantage, if all else fails they can buy themselves lingerie." Later chuckling to myself about the absurdity of buying him anything that came from the mall. chukling in that way that people living under the freeway do when a lexus drives by. A moment of horror in RobinsonsMay when I realized that I would have to do this all over again come Christmas, which would come really, really soon. Desperation, dispair, a phone call, a feeling of general incompentence.

Later came peace and resignation. Fingers crossed, and atleast I like it. :)

(may he forgive me if he reads this)

old sweaters and curly headed boys
a book, a blanket,
heaven.
falling asleep saturday night to the sound of falling rain
through an open window.
satiated.
waking early on a sunday morning to a world
silver as Ansel's prints, than later
white.
turning back into bed around 3pm
a little more reading, mostly,
sleep.
monday it's someday, track 4 revolves again
concentration escapes my notice,
fallen.

Just last night I was wondering if anyone was still reading this and if it would change what I wrote if I knew. Well, I have recieved comments so I guess I know, but that still doesn't answer my second question.

Song lyrics drifting through my head. . .

, , , "'cause when we make love I lose track of time, don't think I can count all the colors I see in your eyes" [D.H.], , ,

, , "you see it your way, I see it mine, but we both see it slipping away..." [the eagles]

". . . just touch my check before you leave me, baby. . ." [J.N.]

ah, the randomness of the radio :)

well now to hw. [note to the universe: Teel isn't so bad as he promised to be the first two weeks of class]

Notes from class with Dr. S this afternoon:

B: "desposing all of my faith! everything I thought was true is not. I am but a lamb!"
*
B: "I bet they have conversations about the Buddha in India all the time."
*
B [on his way into the restroom]: "there has to be an absolute somewhere, or else that blows the top off of everything!"
***
Dr. S: "a damn good lawnmower"
***
Poor Unsuspecting Bryan: "Do you believe in evolution?"
Dr. S: Yes
PUB: shellshocked, "Do you believe in everything that goes with evolution?"
Dr.S: attempting to elaborate argument
PUB: either you do or you don't
Dr.S: Bryan
PUB: still talking to classmates
Dr. S: Bryan
PUB:still talking
Dr. S: "Bryan,do you believe in God?"
PUB: Yes
Dr.S: "Do you believe in everything that goes with that?"

LOL! I love that class. In an hour and a half we managed to discuss communion, the virigin birth, the nature of Christ and evolution all in a class that is about the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment.

Just read this today in T.J. Monkey's truly wonderful thought of the day:

"Simultaneously, I've been takingTylenol Sinus, both day and night varieties. At some point, I swithched over to the dualpack of Tylenol Cold. By the way, I love the day/night medicine combo pack. Finally, I don't have to pick up two small boxes of caplets, but all my blister pack needs are fulfilled by one package. Whew. Those two boxes were confusing, not to mention heavy and unwieldy. Side note, unwidledy is an underutilized word. Other underutilized words include outlandish, shenanigans and vehicular. Feel free to employ them in your everyday interactions. you'll sound smart. Or you'll at least get the comment that the word you just used is underutilized." thought for 10/8/04

HILARIOUS! funniest thing I've read all week. :)

Here is a ancedote from a class I was in last week. I feel that it properly explains why Dr. S is such a very cool professor and also why it is so much fun to have classes with B.

Dr. S: [speaking on Galileo's contributions to physics] He concretized theories. . .

[entire class pauses for a moment]

Dr. S: [turning to survey the mass confusion] made concrete, solid, removed from the realm of the abstract.

B: Is that even a real word?

Dr. S: [a definite smirk on his face] You can turn any noun into a verb by adding "ize" to the end.

___

In a different class, this week, the balance of power is turning, thank the powers that be, but that did not prevent Dr. T from reading excerps of papers aloud in class and mocking them, [trust me, it was histerical], he told me he would rather I drink beer than not proof read for his class. I think we may have a deal. ;)
