Happy Birthday to me . . .

:)
"Corn is an annual crop. Butcher's meat, a crop which requires four or five years to grow. As an acre of land, therefore, will produce a much smaller quantity of the one species of food than the other, the inferiority of the quantity must be compensated by the superiority of the price."
-- Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations

Spring break was fun. The snow, the slush, tent falling down three times plus the bungie corded snow chains made it an adventure. [By the way the oasis is in Lodi.] McGeorge was disappointing, but I'm not ruling it out completely. Berkeley was facinating. Haight Ashbury was incredibly cool. D and I discovered clothing shops that we could not have dreamed into existence. And I found out the name of the bookstore that we should have gone to after we got back: City Lights.

Some Questions and Answers regarding the International Criminal Court

Why did some State vote against the Statute?

Seven States voted agaisnt the Statute in an unrecorded vote so the names of the countries voting were not recorded. Three States-- China, USA, and Israel-- stated their reasons for voting against. China thought that the power given to the pre-trial Chamber to check the Prosecutor's initiative was not sufficient and that the adoption of the Statute should have been by consensus, not by vote.
The United States' principal objection was over the concept of jurisdiction and its application over non-State parties. It also stated that the Statute must recognize the role of the Security Council in determing an act of aggression.

Isral said that it failed to comprehend why the action of transferring populations into an occupied teritory was included in the list of crimes.

U.S. Constitution is over. YAY! :D

One last look back:
"Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for the law; it invites anarchy. To declare that in the adminsitration of the criminal law the end justifies the means-- to declare that the government may commit crimes in order to secure the conviction of a private criminal-- would bring terrible retribution." --Justice Brandeis, OLMSTEAD v. UNITED STATES, dissenting
